Aquatic Center Swim Lessons

American Red Cross Learn to Swim
The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes provide instruction to help swimmers of all abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills. It is designed to give students a positive learning experience, while teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Each of the six levels introduces students to a challenging variety of activities and skills while building on lessons from the previous levels.  Classes are conducted in 40-minute periods, Monday through Friday, for two weeks per session. All new participants will be tested on the first day of the session to assess their skills and will be placed into the proper level based on the results of this test and age. Classes will only be canceled due to inclement weather (lightning) and will be made up the following week.

Teen Swim Lessons
This class is specifically for 12-14 year olds. Class activities will be arranged on a session-by-session basis according to the skill level of students enrolled. All students will work to improve comfort in the water, stroke development, water safety and games. This class is perfect for older students who are just being introduced to swim lessons or simply need a refresher but are too old for the Learn to Swim program.

Swim Club

This program is designed to help stimulate interest in competitive swimming while continuing to develop each participant’s stroke techniques. Those who want to continue in a swimming program after passing Level 6 Learn to Swim would be ideal participants for this class. Swimmers must complete an evaluation prior to registration. The evaluation will entail a full length of the pool with the crawl stroke without difficulty. Call the office to set up an evaluation.

Diving

This class is for participants who are interested in learning how to dive and progressions from the land to the board. Participants must be able to change from a vertical to horizontal position in deep water, change directions and return to the side of the pool. Skills include kneeling, compact, stride and standing dives. This class would be appropriate for Levels 3-4 Learn to Swim.

This class is specifically formatted for younger children. Each session will concentrate on improved comfort in and around water, increased awareness, range of motion, safety and beginning stroke skills. Student/teacher ratio is small in order to promote increased individual attention and closer student/teacher relationships. This class is an excellent way to introduce your child to swim lessons in an individualized and progressive manner.

Tadpoles

Tadpoles is a water exploration class for 3-5 year olds. Students will learn rudimentary swimming and pool safety skills through songs and play. Parents may participate in the first two days of class, but the remainder of the session will focus on building student-teacher relationships and independence in the water.

Private Swim Lessons

This is a great opportunity for one-on-one skill development. Lessons are given in 40-minute intervals and are based on skill progression with input from the participant. Private lessons meet for 5 consecutive days (5 days equals one session), Monday through Friday. This is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is dependent on instructor availability. Please note: certain weeks are reserved for make-up lessons. There will be $5 family discount for siblings that are registered at the same time. Online registration is not available for this program.

Adult Swim Lessons
Participants in this class learn skills that range from water orientation through the breaststroke. All participants are tested during the first class and assessed at the appropriate skill level. Participants will receive individual attention as well as practice time to concentrate and perfect strokes. All abilities and levels are welcome.

Aqua Aerobics
Enjoy a group fitness class setting while practicing in aerobic endurance, resistance training, and dancing. Intensity of workout will be based on participant. Aqua Aerobics welcomes people of all shapes and sizes to incorporate aerobics and muscle-strengthening into their weekly exercise schedule. Participants do not have to be strong swimmers to enroll in the class.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING CERTIFICATION

Learn job-specific skills of a professional rescuer. This course teaches responsibilities of a lifeguard, first aid/CPR and spinal injury management. Participants must pass a skills pretest to qualify for this class. Bring your suit, towel and pen daily. Payment of this fee does not guarantee certification. Fee is non-refundable.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING RE-CERTIFICATION

This course is recommended if you have previously been certified in Lifeguarding and want to become recertified. Participants must be prepared to successfully perform skills and pass written tests. Bring your swimsuit and towel to this class. Books are not included. Participants should be sure of their skills before attempting this class. Payment of class fee does not guarantee certification. Fee is non-refundable.
